Individual Psychotherapy

My work with individuals in psychotherapy focuses providing support in two areas: deep healing from developmental trauma, and continued evolution and growth. Although I frame them here as separate areas, often these are engaged simultaneously and iteratively.

Healing

Using present-centered, experientially-based (somatic) Gestalt and Internal Family Systems approaches, the core developmental wounding and beliefs that lie underneath feelings such as anxiety, depression, low mood, anger, shame, unlovability, lack, overwhelm, meaninglessness and grief can be contacted and worked with in a way that brings not only healing and relief but also a sense of aliveness, connectedness, confidence and optimistic joy into our life.

As a transpersonally trained psychotherapist and meditation practitioner, I also offer support in the area of spiritual unfolding. Psychotherapy can be a vital aid in working through blockages to further unfolding as well as integrating openings and peak experiences to bring a sense of wholeness as one navigates daily relative-world life.

Growth

I work with clients to see, understand and unwind outdated habitual patterns and relational strategies that have become impediments to a satisfying life and nourishing relationships, whether personally or professionally. Through a non-judgmental exploration of our conditioning, core beliefs and deepest values we can begin to learn and integrate more authentic ways of engaging in our life and relationships to bring about more genuine connection, spontaneity, psychological flexibility and overall well-being.

Sometimes this work involves engaging and coming to terms with the ultimate questions and realities of a human life, allowing us to live from a greater sense of ease, fundamental okayness, and a deep sense of meaning that can arise from living our life in alignment with our deepest values and most important priorities. Themes that may be explored include existential anxiety, fear of death, belonging and connection, meaning and meaninglessness, identity, the midlife transition (sometimes referred to as “midlife crisis”), meditation and awakening, and spiritual bypassing, among others.
